Calm Returns to Rusamambu, Kalonge, and Kasopo (Walikale) After Clashes Between AFC/M23
Walikale February 3, 2026 - Calm was restored on Tuesday morning, February 3, in the villages of Rusamambu (Ikobo group), Kalonge, and Kasopo (Kisimba group) in Walikale territory, North Kivu, following a night of violent clashes between AFC/M23 rebels and the Wazalendo of the CMC/APC group. According to local sources, the fighting began around 1:00 a.m., when the Wazalendo launched attacks on rebel positions. Exchanges of fire, involving heavy and light weapons, continued until approximately 6:00 a.m. Residents spent a restless night at home, fearing the spread of violence. No official information is available yet regarding casualties or material damage. Sources indicate that the Wazalendo withdrew from Rusamambu, Kalonge, and Kasopo on Tuesday morning, leaving the villages under AFC/M23 control.
