Burkina Faso Strengthens Human Rights Monitoring Through Targeted Training Program

Koudougou, December 16, 2025 - The Ministry of Justice and Human Rights, responsible for relations with institutions (MJDHRI), through its Directorate General of Human Rights (DGDH), has launched a three-day training session for members of the Consultation, Monitoring, and Early Warning Framework on Human Rights Violations.

The program focuses on human rights principles, the human rights-based approach (HRA), and the mandate of the United Nations Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR). It is designed to enhance constructive dialogue among stakeholders and ensure continuous monitoring and evidence-based reporting of alleged human rights violations in contexts of insecurity and violence.

The opening ceremony was presided over by Secretary General Harouna Kadio, represented by Project Manager Mathias Sam, who emphasized the strategic importance of human rights promotion and protection for Burkina Faso. “This is an important step for Burkina Faso,” he noted, underscoring that the effectiveness of the Consultation Framework depends on members’ mastery of technical monitoring tools.

Over the course of the training, participants from various ministries and departments aim to strengthen operational capacities, improve early-warning mechanisms, and enhance coordination across institutions.

This initiative reflects a joint commitment by the MJDHRI and OHCHR to build a robust, accountable, and well-equipped national human rights protection system, rooted in the principles of human dignity and accountability.
