Burkina Faso’s Economy Shows Strong Growth and Positive Indicators, IMF Reports
Ouagadougou, December 16, 2025 - Technical Advisor Souleymane Nabole, representing the Minister of Economy and Finance, chaired a presentation of the IMF Regional Economic Outlook for Sub-Saharan Africa, October 2025 edition, titled “Staying Firm”, at the Higher Institute of Population Sciences (ISSP) of Joseph Ki-Zerbo University. The event was organized by the IMF Resident Representative in Burkina Faso.
The report highlighted Burkina Faso as a favorable case, benefiting from ambitious reforms aimed at mobilizing domestic resources and enhancing public spending management. Investments across key sectors, particularly agriculture, have boosted national production and supported economic activity.
According to the IMF, Burkina Faso’s economic growth reached nearly 5% in 2024, with projections exceeding 6% for 2025. Inflationary pressures remain low, with 0.5% inflation in 2024 and deflation expected in 2025. The fiscal outlook is also encouraging, with the public deficit projected at around 3%, potentially below the WAEMU threshold by 2027.
The IMF Regional Economic Outlook provides a semi-annual analysis of sub-Saharan Africa’s economic situation, evaluating recent developments, challenges, government initiatives, and regional priorities for sustainable economic management.
