Burkina Faso Reviews Peacebuilding Fund Projects to Strengthen Strategic Interventions
Ouagadougou, December 9, 2025 - The Steering Committee for Peacebuilding Fund (PBF) projects in Burkina Faso held its second ordinary session of 2025 on Tuesday, marking a key transition from the Emergency Program for the Sahel (PUS-BF) to the new National Strategy for Territorial Resilience and Stabilization. The session, chaired by the Minister of Economy and Finance and represented by the Governor of Kadiogo, provided an opportunity to assess past progress and set strategic priorities for future interventions.
Between 2017 and 2024, the PBF mobilized approximately 33 billion CFA francs to support 27 projects across Burkina Faso. These initiatives focused on three main pillars:
Strengthening trust between the population and the State;
Building social resilience and promoting active participation of women and youth;
Fostering peaceful, inclusive, and sustainable conflict management.
As of November 15, 2025, the implementation of these projects achieved 84.4% of physical targets and 79% of financial objectives, reflecting significant progress on the ground.
According to Maurice Azonnankpo, Acting UN Resident Coordinator in Burkina Faso, the Fund’s interventions have yielded tangible results. These include supporting government measures against money laundering and terrorist financing, mobilizing the agricultural mechanization brigade to cultivate 200 hectares, and establishing 669 savings groups, of which 530 have been equipped with savings management tools.
The meeting also provided a framework to align new projects with local realities, ensuring interventions are more effective, relevant, and capable of addressing the evolving challenges of peacebuilding, resilience, and stabilization in Burkina Faso.
