Burkina Faso: Public Service Minister Mathias Traoré Defends 2026 Priorities Before Budget Committee

Ouagadougou, le 24 novembre 2025 - The Minister of Public Service, Labor and Social Protection, Mathias Traoré, appeared on Monday before the Finance and Budget Committee (COMFIB) of the Transitional Legislative Assembly to present the performance of his ministry’s 2025 budget and outline the priorities set for 2026.

Opening his presentation, the Minister expressed gratitude for the continued support of the Transitional Legislative Assembly (ALT), before reviewing progress under the Ministry’s flagship programs:

Committee members engaged in extensive discussions, raising questions on several sensitive and structural issues. Among the topics addressed were the implementation of the Universal Health Insurance (RAMU), the new targeted recruitment mechanism, the fight against fake diplomas, medical examinations for retirees, the rights of laid-off workers, enforcement of political neutrality within the civil service, and the overall status of the public workforce.

According to Traoré, the ministry has already initiated actions on all these fronts, and efforts will intensify in the coming year.

Looking ahead to 2026, the Minister reaffirmed the government’s commitment to advancing public service reforms, strengthening labor governance, and expanding social protection systems - all with the overarching goal of safeguarding the general interest of workers.

He also called for the continued backing of the Legislative Assembly, particularly to finalize the rollout of the RAMU, whose benefits are expected to take effect on February 1, 2026.
