Burkina Faso Presents 2024 EITI Report Highlighting Transparency and Extractive Sector Reforms

Ouagadougou, December 9, 2025 - A delegation from the Steering Committee of the Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (EITI) of Burkina Faso, led by Chairman Vieux Abdoul Rachid Soulama, officially presented the 2024 EITI Report, titled “Transparency in Action: Reforms for Sustainable Development”, to Minister of Economy and Finance Dr. Aboubakar Nacanabo on Tuesday. The handover marks a key milestone in strengthening governance and accountability in Burkina Faso’s extractive industries.

The 2024 report builds on progress achieved in the management of the country’s mining sector, presenting updates to the legislative and regulatory framework and providing an overview of the macroeconomic context, which reflects a recovery in economic activity and the sector’s contributions to national development.

Notably, the report includes new disclosures, publishing for the first time the costs of mining extraction and greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, enabling a more comprehensive analysis of both the economic and environmental performance of the sector.

For this reporting cycle, the EITI-BF Steering Committee focused on enhancing data quality and reliability, ensuring traceability of financial flows between companies, government, and local authorities, integrating recent legislative reforms, and documenting the economic, social, and environmental impacts of extractive activities.

Minister Nacanabo praised the EITI Permanent Secretariat and all stakeholders for the quality and rigor of their work, welcoming the report as a strategic tool to highlight the extractive sector’s contributions to Burkina Faso’s sustainable development and to reinforce transparency and good governance practices in the sector.
