Burkina Faso, Morocco Sign 12 Agreements to Deepen Bilateral Cooperation
Ouagadougou, December 10, 2025 - Burkina Faso and the Kingdom of Morocco have signed 12 new cooperation agreements aimed at strengthening long-standing bilateral relations, following the fifth session of their Joint Commission on Bilateral Cooperation held in Ouagadougou on Wednesday.
The ministerial meeting was co-chaired by Burkina Faso’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, H.E. Karamoko Jean Marie Traoré, and Morocco’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccans Abroad, H.E. Nasser Bourita. It concluded with the adoption of the session’s minutes, a joint communiqué, and the signing of multiple cooperation instruments.
Among the agreements is a deal on the reciprocal recognition of national driver’s licenses, as well as three cooperation agreements covering labor, security, and civil protection. Six memoranda of understanding were also signed in the fields of agriculture, trade, youth, housing and urban planning, and the exchange of expertise in security and road infrastructure.
In addition, the two sides initialed a framework agreement on scholarships, internships, and the sharing of expertise, along with another framework agreement focused on vocational training.
The holding of the joint commission reflects the shared commitment of President Ibrahim Traoré of Burkina Faso and King Mohammed VI of Morocco to consolidating six decades of friendship and fraternity between the two nations.
“This meeting underscores the strength and depth of the ties that unite our two countries, founded on fraternity, solidarity, mutual respect, and fruitful cooperation,” Minister Bourita said, reaffirming Morocco’s solidarity with Burkina Faso and its support for efforts to preserve territorial integrity, sovereignty, and national security.
For his part, Minister Traoré described the meeting as a concrete expression of South-South cooperation centered on shared development and the affirmation of sovereignty. He praised Morocco’s role in promoting peace and stability, particularly in the Sahel, and highlighted Rabat’s support for the Sahelian Confederation.
The Burkinabe foreign minister expressed hope that the Ouagadougou meeting would accelerate the implementation of commitments made by both parties. The fifth session follows expert-level talks held last October in Ouagadougou. The sixth session of the Joint Commission is scheduled for 2027 in Morocco.
