Burkina Faso - JNIM Claims Responsibility for New Attack in the Dédougou Region
Dédougou, November 26, 2025 - The jihadist coalition Jama'at Nusrat al-Islam wal-Muslimin (JNIM) has claimed responsibility for a new attack carried out on Wednesday, November 26, against a local militia position in the locality of Berkoui, situated in the Dédougou region, in western Burkina Faso.
According to a statement released by the group, the assault resulted in the killing of two militia members stationed at the post. JNIM also claims to have seized two Kalashnikov rifles, eleven motorcycles, and various military and logistical equipment during the operation.
This latest attack adds to a series of recurring operations conducted by the group in western Burkina Faso, a zone where auxiliary forces and local self-defense groups remain highly exposed despite ongoing security efforts. The escalation highlights the continued difficulty faced by Burkinabè authorities in stabilizing regions outside the eastern and northern fronts, where insurgent activity is traditionally more intense.
