Burkina Faso, EU Review Partnership Actions and Priorities

Ouagadougou, December 7, 2025 - Senior members of the Burkinabe government on Friday met with a delegation from the European Union and its Member States to review progress under their multilateral partnership and align future cooperation with Burkina Faso’s national priorities.

The government delegation was led by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Regional Cooperation and Burkinabe Abroad, H.E. Karamoko Jean Marie Traoré, alongside the Minister of Security, Divisional Police Commissioner Mahamadou Sana; the Minister of Economy and Finance, Dr. Aboubacar Nacanabo; and the Minister Delegate for Regional Cooperation, Ms. Stella Eldine Kabre/Kaboré. The talks took place on the afternoon of Friday, December 5, in Ouagadougou.

Discussions focused on assessing actions undertaken by the EU delegation to Burkina Faso, measuring progress on existing commitments, and ensuring coherence with government priorities outlined in the Stabilization and Development Action Plan (SDA) 2021-2025.

Chairing the meeting, Minister Traoré said the partnership with the European Union has produced tangible results in key sectors, notably governance, inclusive human development, and community and humanitarian resilience. However, he stressed that major challenges persist, including securing the national territory, restoring state authority, strengthening the resilience of vulnerable communities, and accelerating infrastructure development.

He called for a convergence of visions between Burkina Faso and its European partners to translate shared ambitions into concrete actions, grounded in transparency, mutual trust, and efficiency, in order to support the emergence of a peaceful, resilient, and prosperous country.

The Head of the EU Delegation to Burkina Faso, Ambassador Philippe Bronchain, welcomed the dialogue and reaffirmed the European Union’s commitment to continued engagement with its Sahel partners, particularly Burkina Faso, within a framework of mutually beneficial cooperation.

According to Ambassador Bronchain, the consultations also served as a platform to address differences, with the aim of defining improved prospects for cooperation in socio-economic development, the fight against terrorism and criminal networks, and migration management, while upholding the principles of equality, human values, and mutual respect.
