Burkina Faso Commemorates International Translation Day, Highlights Role of Translators and Interpreters
Ouagadougou, December 18, 2025 - The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Regional Cooperation, and Burkinabe Abroad, through its Bureau of Interpretation and Translation (BIT), marked International Translation Day on December 17, 2025.
This year’s theme, “Translators and Interpreters: Key Actors in Communication, Linguistic Allies,” reflects the critical role of language professionals in diplomacy and international cooperation.
The ceremony was presided over by Ambassador Dieudonné Désiré Sougouri, Chief of Staff to the Minister of Foreign Affairs, who highlighted the essential contribution of translators and interpreters to the smooth conduct of diplomatic exchanges. He encouraged staff to strengthen their skills, integrate technological innovations, and maintain high standards of excellence.
Ms. Maïmouna Yaguibou, representing the Bureau of Interpretation and Translation, reaffirmed the commitment of her team to continuously improve translation and interpretation practices to facilitate communication and international cooperation.
The commemorative day included discussions on the ethics and professional standards of translation and interpretation, as well as reflections on the challenges faced by language professionals in diplomatic contexts.
