Burkina Faso Authorities Address Yargatenga Chieftaincy Crisis, Stress Peace and Justice
Tenkodogo, December 12, 2025 - The Public Prosecutor’s Office of the Tenkodogo High Court issued an official statement following violent clashes on November 8, 2025, between rival groups linked to the Yargatenga chieftaincy in the village of Hornogho. The incident left seven people injured, including one by gunshot, and caused significant property damage.
In response, authorities launched an immediate investigation to identify those responsible and ensure justice. On November 23, 2025, a mediation session led by the Minister of Security facilitated initial de-escalation, resulting in the suspension of arrests while investigations continued.
However, tensions resurfaced on December 7, 2025, when a defamation and incitement to hatred complaint was filed against Mr. Adama Guindaogo on Facebook, prompting the reopening of the investigation.
On December 12, 2025, Mr. Guindaogo was charged with flagrant offenses and placed in pretrial detention. He is scheduled to appear before the criminal court on December 18, 2025.
The Prosecutor emphasized that no one is above the law, calling on all parties to act with responsibility, restraint, and respect for social cohesion. He reaffirmed that terrorism remains a shared threat and that any acts undermining national unity will be prosecuted with the utmost rigor.
