Burkina Faso and Oman Strengthen Bilateral Ties During High-Level Visit

Muscat, December 15, 2025 - Burkina Faso and the Sultanate of Oman reaffirmed their commitment to deepening bilateral cooperation during a friendly working visit by the Burkinabè Minister of Foreign Affairs, Regional Cooperation, and Burkinabè Abroad to Muscat on December 14, 2025.

During the visit, Minister Karamoko Jean Marie Traoré met with His Excellency Sayyid Badr Albusaidi, Omani Minister of Foreign Affairs, as well as Mr. Qais Bin Mohammed Al Yousef, Omani Minister of Trade, Industry, and Investment Promotion.

The two sides highlighted a new phase of collaboration, agreeing to establish technical teams and exchange delegations to explore strategic areas of cooperation. Key sectors identified include agriculture, mining, investment, trade, cultural and academic exchanges, telecommunications, tourism, and media, aimed at fostering mutual understanding and facilitating partnerships between the populations of both countries.

The ministers also discussed trade and investment, with Minister Traoré presenting Burkina Faso’s potential to attract Omani investors and emphasizing Ouagadougou’s strategic location in West Africa. They stressed the importance of connecting the Chambers of Commerce of both nations to accelerate business collaboration.

Additional agreements under consideration include visa exemptions for official passport holders and political consultations between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of Burkina Faso and Oman.

Diplomatic relations between the two countries were first established on October 5, 1981, and the ongoing exchanges signal a renewed commitment to long-term partnership. The visit follows an Omani delegation’s trip to Ouagadougou in August 2025, highlighting a mutual desire to expand cooperation in economic, cultural, and social spheres.

Oman, located on the Arabian Peninsula, boasts significant economic and strategic potential, including natural gas and renewable energy resources, efficient logistics, infrastructure, and a growing cultural and tourism sector, making it a valuable partner for Burkina Faso’s development objectives.
