Kinshasa - December 17, 2025 - Belgian Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Maxime Prévot has called on the Democratic Republic of Congo to complement regional peace and de-escalation efforts with an inclusive internal political process.

Prévot emphasized that Congolese actors, representing the country’s diverse political landscape, must take ownership of international commitments, translate them into tangible actions, and agree on key reforms, particularly in governance.

Reacting to the recent arrest of Emmanuel Shadary, Permanent Secretary of the PPRD, Prévot described the situation as concerning. He urged Kinshasa authorities to prioritize dialogue and political détente, respecting the Constitution and republican principles, and highlighted inclusion as a critical tool to ease political tensions and strengthen national unity amid ongoing security challenges in the eastern provinces.
