Appointment to AES TV Management Signals Progress in Digital Media

Bamako, December 17, 2025 - The Minister of Communication, Digital Economy, and Administrative Modernization has appointed five Malians to the management of AES TV, including editor-in-chief Moussa Abdoulaye Papa Haïdara and technical director Mamadou Guindo. While the move is intended to ensure representation of AES countries, the exclusively Malian appointments have drawn criticism over perceived hegemony.

Officials describe this as a step toward media modernization and the digital economy in the Sahel, promoting sovereign information. On the positive side, it could strengthen regional cohesion through shared content and support technological diversification. However, analysts warn that excluding Burkinabe and Nigerien partners risks internal tensions within the ESA, potentially limiting the channel’s cross-border impact.
