Angolan and Qatari Foreign Ministers Discuss Rwanda

Doha/Luanda - 10 January 2026: The Foreign Ministers of Angola and Qatar held talks on resolving ongoing issues between Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) through peaceful means. According to a statement from the Qatari Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani, Qatar’s Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, spoke by phone with Angolan Foreign Minister Tete Antonio. The discussions focused on peaceful conflict resolution and strengthening international cooperation between the two nations. The statement emphasized that Qatar supports resolving disputes through dialogue and in accordance with international law to restore peace and security. Since the deterioration of Rwanda-DRC relations, Qatar has played an active role in mediation. It was first mentioned in reconciliation talks in January 2023, and in March 2025, it helped facilitate meetings between President Paul Kagame of Rwanda and President Félix Tshisekedi of the DRC. The Qatari-led peace process contributed to the signing of a bilateral peace agreement in Washington, D.C., in December 2025, and Qatar continues to maintain communication between the DRC government and the AFC/M23 rebel movement, which remains in active conflict with the DRC army.
