16 Congolese Among Victims of Comoros Shipwreck
Mitsamiouli, Comoros March 20, 2026 - Sixteen Congolese nationals were among the victims of a shipwreck off the coast of Mitsamiouli, Comoros, on March 18, local authorities reported. The official list released by Comorian authorities confirms 18 deaths in total, including two Burundians, while a separate statement from the Civil Security Directorate General indicated that the boat, carrying migrants from the East African coast, had capsized at sea. The provisional report notes 12 confirmed dead, 12 missing, and 30 survivors, who are currently receiving treatment at Mitsamiouli hospital.
