Suspected ADF Movements Force Flight Along Kambau-Njiapanda Axis

By Amina Kabasele2 min read

Lubero, North Kivu, August 5, 2026 - Displacements occurred during the night of August 2-3 as residents fled from Kambau and Pawanza towards Njiapanda and Butembo due to suspected movements of the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) near Maikengu Bapakombe Bapere. The situation has raised significant alarm among local communities, prompting civil society leader Kasereka Kagheni Samuel to call for enhanced security measures and for elected officials to take a more active role in addressing the escalating violence.

This wave of displacement follows a series of violent incidents in the region, including a recent attack in Makumo that resulted in approximately ten fatalities, as well as another incident on July 21-22 that left at least seven people dead. The ongoing threat posed by the ADF has created a climate of fear, compelling families to abandon their homes in search of safety. Local authorities are under pressure to respond effectively to the growing insecurity, as communities demand immediate action to protect their lives and livelihoods.
