Rwanda’s 16th Indangamirwa Intore Class Graduates After 40-Day Training

Gatsibo, 10 August 2026 - A total of 769 young Rwandans have completed the 16th edition of the Indangamirwa Itorero program after 40 days of training at the Gabiro Military Training Center in Gatsibo District.

The graduating class comprised 454 men and 315 women drawn from different backgrounds, including Rwandans living or studying abroad, students from international secondary schools and universities, as well as high-performing participants from the 13th Inkomezamabigwi Itorero.

The program covered Kinyarwanda, Rwandan culture, values and social norms, alongside basic military training such as shooting, combat discipline, martial arts and physical exercises. Participants also interacted with senior national leaders, including President Paul Kagame, as part of the program.

With the latest cohort, the Indangamirwa program has now trained 5,985 young people, including 5,216 graduates from the previous 15 cohorts.

For participants, the training was also an opportunity to strengthen their understanding of Rwandan identity, history and civic responsibility. Uwera Agasaro, 22, who lives in the United States, said the program helped her reconnect with Rwandan culture and understand the importance of cooperation, discipline and respect.

Ange Ineza, 18, said lessons about the sacrifices made during Rwanda’s liberation struggle deepened her sense of patriotism and strengthened her commitment to contributing to the country’s future.

Other graduates said the program taught them the importance of preserving Rwanda’s achievements, maintaining good conduct and representing the country positively abroad. Karabaranga, who is preparing to study in Canada, said she intends to serve as a positive ambassador for Rwanda by demonstrating the values learned during the training.

Uwiduhaye Phocas highlighted physical fitness, national history and discipline among the lessons he expects to carry into his future, saying graduates also have a responsibility to share what they learned with their communities.

The 16th Indangamirwa cohort began its training on 1 July 2026 and concluded on 10 August, bringing together young Rwandans from within the country and abroad for an intensive program focused on culture, patriotism, discipline and national responsibility.
