Rwanda, Qatar Deepen Military Cooperation Through Police and Protection Training

Gako, 12 August 2026 - A total of 146 Rwandan soldiers, including officers, have completed a seven-week Military Police and leaders’ protection training conducted at the Gako Military Academy in collaboration with the Qatari Armed Forces.

The training, which concluded on 11 August, focused on military police duties including protection of senior officials, counter-terrorism, urban combat skills and managing protests and riots.

The graduation ceremony was presided over by Gen Mubarakh Muganga, Chief of Staff of the Rwanda Defence Forces, and attended by Qatar’s Ambassador to Rwanda, Mansoor Ali Al-Hajri, senior Qatari military officers and Rwandan military leadership.

Muganga commended the graduates for their discipline and professionalism, saying the training had strengthened the capabilities of Rwanda’s Military Police and contributed to broader military professionalization. He urged the soldiers to apply the skills acquired and share their knowledge with fellow servicemen.

He also praised the Qatari instructors for their contribution and described the training as another step in the expanding military partnership between Rwanda and Qatar, particularly in professional training, knowledge exchange and the sharing of military experience.

The Qatari delegation, meanwhile, thanked Rwanda’s military leadership for its support throughout the program and highlighted the close cooperation between the two armed forces as a key factor behind the successful completion of the training.
