Niger Participates in ESA Council of Ministers’ First Confederal Session in Bamako

Niamey, December 20, 2025 - Niger, alongside Mali and Burkina Faso, took part in the opening of the first confederal session of the Council of Ministers of the Alliance of Sahel States (ESA), held on December 20, 2025, in Bamako. The ceremony was chaired by the Malian Head of State and current Chair of the Alliance, General Assimi Goïta.

This session represents a major step envisioned by the ESA Founding Treaty, signed in Niamey on July 6, 2024. It forms part of the finalization of the Alliance's institutional framework and prepares for the second summit of Heads of State from member countries.

Ministers examined strategic issues, including the implementation of the first-year roadmap, and protocols related to defense, diplomacy, and development. These discussions aim to strengthen coordination and effectiveness of joint action within the Sahel region.

Through its participation, Niger reaffirmed its commitment to sovereign integration within the ESA and to reinforcing regional cooperation. This approach highlights the willingness of member states to jointly address security and economic challenges, while promoting stability, development, and strategic autonomy for the Sahelian peoples.
