Malian Ambassador Presents Credentials to Kazakhstan’s President Tokayev

Astana, March 4, 2026 - Mali’s Ambassador to Kazakhstan, Seydou Kamissoko, officially presented his credentials to President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev on Wednesday during a ceremony marking the start of his diplomatic mission in the Central Asian country. Kamissoko, who is based in Moscow and concurrently accredited to Kazakhstan, delivered the credentials on behalf of Mali’s transitional authorities. Following the formal ceremony, the Malian diplomat held an audience with the Kazakh president. During the meeting, Kamissoko conveyed the “warm greetings” of Mali’s transitional president, General Assimi Goïta, and briefed Tokayev on the political and security situation in Mali and within the broader confederal framework of the Sahel. The ambassador reaffirmed his commitment to strengthening ties between Bamako and Astana, emphasizing cooperation grounded in solidarity, mutual respect, and shared interests. Both sides highlighted the importance of expanding technical, economic, and trade cooperation across sectors of mutual interest, signaling a willingness to deepen bilateral relations. Prior to the credential ceremony, Kamissoko had presented copies of his letters of credence on March 3 to Kazakhstan’s Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Alibek Kuantyrov. The two officials discussed avenues for enhancing political dialogue and boosting economic and cultural exchanges between the two countries. Kamissoko’s appointment reflects Mali’s ongoing efforts to broaden its diplomatic engagement and develop partnerships beyond its traditional allies.
