Mali’s Foreign Minister Bids Farewell to Outgoing UNDP Representative
Bamako, March 6, 2026 - Mali’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Abdoulaye Diop, on Friday received the outgoing Resident Representative of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Mali, Maleye Diop, during a farewell audience marking the end of his diplomatic mission in the country. During the meeting in Bamako, the Malian foreign minister praised the departing official for his professionalism, personal commitment, and innovative approach in supporting the UN agency’s development initiatives in Mali. Diop highlighted the UNDP’s contributions to strengthening socio-economic governance, advancing institutional reforms, promoting innovative development financing, and supporting capacity-building efforts for development actors across the country. For his part, Maleye Diop welcomed what he described as the Malian government’s strong commitment to cooperation with the UN agency. He pointed in particular to the regular payment of Mali’s contributions to the UNDP budget and the authorities’ leadership in developing a new cooperation program aligned with national priorities. The outgoing representative also expressed gratitude to Malian authorities for their support throughout his tenure, describing Mali as a welcoming country committed to long-term development and economic emergence through a proactive strategic vision.
