Mali-Guinea | President Assimi Goïta Returns to Bamako After Mamadi Doumbouya’s

Bamako, January 17, 2026 - The President of the Transition, General Assimi Goïta, returned to Bamako on the early evening of January 17, 2026, after attending the inauguration ceremony of his Guinean counterpart, Mamadi Doumbouya, in Conakry. This diplomatic visit formed part of the bilateral relations between Mali and Guinea and marked Mr. Goïta’s presence among about ten African heads of state at the event. His return was confirmed by official sources, who indicated his arrival at Bamako airport after spending the day in Guinea attending the swearing-in ceremony of Mr. Doumbouya, who was elected on December 28, 2025, and inaugurated on January 17, 2026. No official statement has been released by the Malian presidency regarding any bilateral discussions that may have taken place during this trip.
