Mali and China Strengthen Strategic Partnership for Development Projects

Bamako, January 23, 2026 - Mali and China have reaffirmed their commitment to deepening bilateral cooperation, with a focus on accelerating key development projects. Mali’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Abdoulaye Diop, held a working meeting on Friday with the Chinese Ambassador to Mali, Li Xiang, as part of ongoing efforts to monitor and advance the bilateral cooperation portfolio. During the talks, both sides stressed the importance of the rigorous implementation of priority projects under existing economic and technical cooperation agreements, particularly in solar energy, infrastructure and transportation, agricultural mechanization, and healthcare facility construction. Minister Diop highlighted the Malian government’s strong commitment to economic development, emphasizing measures taken to ensure the secure and effective execution of development initiatives in a spirit of pragmatism and shared interests. Both officials praised the strategic partnership between Mali and China and reaffirmed their determination to maintain regular monitoring of ongoing projects, in line with the shared vision of the Malian and Chinese presidents.
