Maj Gen Nyakarundi Visits Rwandan Peacekeepers in Central African Republic

Bangui, 8 August 2026 - Rwanda’s Army Chief of Staff, Maj Gen Vincent Nyakarundi, has visited Rwandan troops serving in the Central African Republic, commending their professionalism and commitment to peacekeeping operations.

During the visit, Nyakarundi met members of the RWABAT-1 unit deployed at the Socatel M’Poko facility in Bangui under the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in the Central African Republic (MINUSCA). He praised the troops for their discipline and dedication in carrying out their responsibilities.

Nyakarundi also delivered a message from President and Commander-in-Chief Paul Kagame, recognizing the soldiers’ contribution to peace and security. He briefed them on Rwanda’s security situation and developments in the region, urging them to maintain discipline, uphold the values of the Rwanda Defence Force and protect the reputation of the military.

The army chief also met MINUSCA Force Commander Lt Gen Humphrey Nyone, with discussions focusing on the UN mission and the role of Rwandan troops in maintaining peace and stability in the Central African Republic.

Nyakarundi is also scheduled to attend the graduation ceremony of Central African Armed Forces (FACA) personnel trained by the Rwanda Defence Force and hold further discussions with MINUSCA officials and Central African authorities on security and military cooperation.
