By Amina Kabasele2 min read

Mitwaba, Haut-Katanga, August 2, 2026 - A surprise attack by Mai-Mai militia on the Kyubo Mamba military cantonment early this morning resulted in the deaths of eight individuals, including two soldiers and six dependents, among them a soldier's wife and five children. The assault occurred between 05:00 and 08:00 local time, during which the garrison was caught off guard. In addition to the fatalities, two soldiers sustained gunshot wounds, and four women were reported burned in the incident.

The Kyubo Mamba garrison is located approximately 250 to 300 kilometers north of Lubumbashi, making it a remote target for such an attack. Following the raid, reinforcements were dispatched from Mitwaba to bolster security in the area, and patrols have been intensified to prevent further incursions. The incident underscores the ongoing volatility in the region, where armed groups continue to pose significant threats to both military and civilian populations.
