Karongi: Teenager Kills Father Following Family Dispute

KARONGI, RWANDA - A 16-year-old boy from Karongi District is now wanted after fatally attacking his 62-year-old father in Nyarubuye Village, Gacaca Cell, Rubengera Sector on October 26, 2025. Authorities say the incident stemmed from ongoing family tensions, including harassment of the boy’s mother that had led to a divorce two years prior.

According to reports, the teenager confronted his father around 3:00 am. A fight ensued, and the boy struck his father with a plowshare while the man was outside. He then fled the scene. Neighbors found the father unconscious and immediately alerted authorities.

Uwiringiyimana Bosco, Executive Secretary of Gacaca Cell, confirmed that local authorities and the police, including the Rwandan Investigation Bureau (RIB), are actively searching for the suspect. “We are still looking for the suspect, but he has not been arrested. We urge the public to avoid violence and report any disputes so that authorities can assist in resolving them,” he said.

The deceased leaves behind a wife and four children, including the teenager. Local officials are appealing to the community to provide information on the boy’s whereabouts to aid the investigation.
