Foreign Minister Abdoulaye Diop Bids Farewell to UNAIDS Country Director
Bamako Mali, February 5, 2026 - Mali’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Abdoulaye Diop, received Dr. Marc Saba, Country Director of the Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS), in a farewell audience marking the end of his mission in Mali. During the meeting in Bamako, Minister Diop praised Dr. Saba’s commitment and contributions to the Malian government, particularly in strengthening the national response to HIV/AIDS. He highlighted the quality of cooperation between Mali and UNAIDS, noting tangible progress in prevention efforts, treatment access, and care for people living with HIV. For his part, Dr. Marc Saba expressed gratitude for his five years of service in Mali, describing the country as welcoming and thanking the authorities for their sustained support throughout his tenure. He reaffirmed that his mission had been dedicated to expanding access to HIV prevention, care, and treatment services. The farewell meeting underscored the continued partnership between Mali and UNAIDS in addressing public health challenges and consolidating gains in the fight against HIV/AIDS.
