Uvira, DRC - Friday, December 26, 2025
According to local sources, a third airstrike was carried out over the Kalundu area by a Sukhoi Su-25 fighter jet of the Congolese Air Force (FARDC), intensifying aerial operations over the city.
In a major escalation, the Sukhoi Su-25 aircraft, which reportedly conducted three bombing runs over Uvira, was later shot down, marking a significant setback for the Congolese air operation. Details surrounding the circumstances of the aircraft’s downing remain unclear.
At the same time, FARDC airstrikes targeted the alleged headquarters of AFC/M23 rebels, located at the former MONUSCO camp in Kala, on the outskirts of Uvira. The extent of damage and possible casualties has not yet been officially confirmed.
